I was talking to a fellow blogger about how she keeps up with her writing every week, and she suggested adding a weekly feature to my blog. I racked my brain for anything that hasn’t been done over and over again, and I came up with something I call Tip Tuesday. Every Tuesday, I will share a quick nutrition or fitness tip that can easily be incorporated into everyday life.
My first tip is about snacking on junk food. I must admit that salty unhealthy snacks, (like chips) are my food weakness. If I buy Doritos, I will eat the entire bag in two days. I control this nasty habit by not venturing down the chip aisle at the store and, consequently, not purchasing unhealthy salty snacks. Seems like a no brainer, right? So many people buy these unhealthy items and think they can moderate their intake, which almost never works. If I don’t buy them and have them in the home, I will never indulge and I lose the urge to eat them. Instead, since I do love snacks, I keep healthy items in my house, such as whole wheat crackers and pretzels, nuts, raisins, fruit, nut butters, and fresh popped popcorn.
Bottom line: If you are prone to snacking, don’t keep unhealthy snacks in the home. If you know you can’t resist these things at the supermarket, don’t walk down the snack aisle. Instead, keep healthy snacks at home to satisfy your snack craving. If you like salty, try whole wheat crackers or making your own popcorn with a touch of salt. If you like sweet, try lower calorie snacks like graham crackers or animal crackers.
